CHELSEA HAVE MADE a bid for Demba Ba and triggered the release clause in his Newcastle contract.

The London club have offered the £7m stipulated in the deal that took the Senegalese striker from West Ham United in 2011.

As a result, the 27-year-old has been withdrawn from the Magpies squad for Wednesday night’s clash with Everton at St. James’ Park.

A club statement read: “Newcastle United can confirm that Chelsea Football Club has made an official offer for Demba Ba which has triggered the release clause in the player’s contract.

“The club has given the player permission to speak to Chelsea FC and therefore he will not be included in the squad for tonight’s game against Everton.”
