CLONMEL COMMERCIALS BOSS Charlie McGeever is hoping that fixtures-makers will apply some common sense in the build-up to the club’s AIB Munster senior club football final against Nemo Rangers on Sunday week, 29 November.
McGeever was faced with the prospect of one of his star players, Jack Kennedy, playing two games in two days over the weekend before the county minor A hurling final involving St Mary’s was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
At this point in time, that game has not been refixed for next weekend and McGeever hopes there will be no fixtures pile-up ahead of the Nemo clash, as Commercials are still involved in the county minor football championship also.
Kennedy could finish the season with four county titles across various grades, with U21 and senior football crowns also won.

But McGeever believes that the prospect of a Tipperary club winning a first ever Munster senior club football title should take precedence.
“I would hope that people have a bit of sense around what they’re doing. I have to get that out of my head, once it was sorted at the start of the week I had to leave it at that.
“We set out to play nine matches, we’re going to play the nine matches now thank God.
“We’re now where we would like to be and the next day will be the test. For this group of players, whose average age is 20 or 21 if you take Fergal (Condon) out of it, they’re very young and they’re going to make mistakes, as again they did on some occasions.
“But you can’t put into the tank what’s gone in over the last eight or ten weeks.”

And McGeever, who guided Tipperary to an All-Ireland minor final this year, is targeting a big performance against Nemo as Commercials gear up for their first Munster final appearance since losing to Castlehaven in 1994.
“We’re good enough to kick on. If we’re beaten by a better opposition the next day, grand, as long as we perform.
“It’s about our performance, not about the opposition, it’s about our performance.
“We know we can do certain things, we know we have weaknesses as well going forward but they’re things we can work at. There’s a level there that they can reach, we’re a certain amount up the ladder.
“Hopefully it will keep going. It’s good for Tipperary, if I was Moyle Rovers today I’d be saying we could have been in a Munster final because that was as tough a match as we’ve had (county final).
