Chad, the 4th-poorest nation in the world, is the main sponsor of French side Metz

The arrangement is supposed to improve tourism in the African country.

IF YOU’RE A fan of French football, you may have noticed something a bit different about the Metz jerseys this season.

The front of their shirts carries a slogan: ‘Tchad: Oasis du Sahel’. Why? Well, that would be because Chad – the world’s fourth-poorest nation – has become the main sponsor of the Ligue 1 club.

The African country pursued the partnership as a way of attracting more tourists to come and visit.

The cost remains a mystery though it’s rumoured to be in the region of 12m euro.

In the Global Hunger Index, Chad is ranked 73rd out of 78 countries and 87% of the country’s rural population live below the poverty line.
