Roscommon finally got off the mark through Martin Reilly on 28 minutes, before subsequent points from Enda Smith and Eugene Keating meant the Rossies led 0-3 to 0-2 after the break.
The second half was a much more open affair however, as Roscommon stormed into 0-9 to 0-2 lead, with Cregg, Murtagh and Smith again among the scorers.
Further points from Smith, Cregg and Conor Daly all but ensured their victory, with Reilly, Philly Tinnelly and Michael Argue grabbing consolation points for Cavan.
