Cathal Pendred added to UFC Fight Night Stockholm card

The Irish fighter has been rewarded for his recent performance in Dublin

AFTER ELECTRIFYING THE home crowd with a stunning comeback win over Mike King in the O2 last month, Ireland’s Cathal Pendred has been given another chance to shine with a place on the UFC Fight Night Stockholm card.

Pendred, who also starred in series 19 of The Ultimate Fighter, will move from middleweight to welterweight to take on Gasan Umalatov.

“Straight after the last fight I was thinking about what’s next for me. I knew that Stockholm was next in Europe and I’ve always wanted to go there and it’s perfect timing for my next fight. I made it known that I was interested and I’m really pleased I got it.

“It’s a good matchup. He has a good record and he is an exciting fighter. But I never overanalyze the opposition; I prefer to focus on myself.”

Holding a 1-1 record in the UFC, Russia’s Umalatov is coming off a decision win over Paulo Thiago in May.

In the main event on October 4, Pendred’s SBG team-mate Gunnar Nelson will fight Rick Story.
