Warriors out with a whimper as Castres keep quarter-final hope alive

Three penalties from Rory Kockott were enough to put the French club in second place.

THREE PENALTIES FROM the boot of scrum-half Rory Kockott were enough to get Castres over the line in Glasgow tonight.

The 6-9 result means the Warriors are effectively out of the running to escape Pool 4 after losing each of their opening three games in Europe including two at home in Scotstoun.

The hosts did manage to lead the game twice through penalties on 13 and 23 minutes from fly-half Scott Wight, but Kockott (who also managed to miss four penalties) had the French side back on level terms at the break.

Wight was also guilty of passing up opportunities, including a straightforward one eight minutes after half time. Kockott would make him pay with the least score of the game just before the 60 minute mark.

If the Top 14 club are to make a rare bid for the quarter finals, they will have to show more clinical finishing in the return fixture next week after long spells in the Warriors’ red zone went unpunished tonight.

With Northampton falling at home to Ulster, the four points put Castres in second place in pool 4.
