Carla Esparza celebrated becoming a UFC champ by spending $1,000...on an ice cream

It contains pieces of actual gold…if that’s what floats your boat.

The UFC crowned their first ever women’s strawweight champion last month, and it was a sweet victory for Carla Esparza.

Her submission of Rose Namajunas in the main event of the TUF 20 Finale gave Esparza a brand new gold belt and a disclosed payout of $50,000.

The 27-year-old Californian, who’s nicknamed ‘Cookie Monster’, has revealed via her social media that she — along with friend and fellow UFC fighter Felice Herrig — forked out $1,000 for an ice cream yesterday at New York restaurant Serendipity 3.

According to the dessert’s description, the Golden Opulence Sundae contains pieces of actual gold: “Edible gold leaf is made from pure gold that is compressed…into very thin sheets…and contain no other metals or impurities.”

The restaurant says it sells one of the sundaes per month on average, but if you plan on treating yourself to one, make sure you let them know in advance. They need 48 hours’ notice to import some of the ingredients.

Personally we’d prefer to spend that kind of dessert budget on 1,000 Choc Ices, but each to their own.
