Capital record: Daly and Gilroy look forward to Dubs' league campaigns

DUBLIN SENIOR HURLING manager Anthony Daly has mixed feelings about lining out at Croke Park this early in the year.

The Clare legend, speaking at GAA HQ at the launch of the national league campaigns yesterday, insisted that he’d prefer to remain in more modest surroundings for now but appreciates that his young side will relish the chance to face the game’s best in Drumcondra.

“I suppose there’s a bit of a wrench there, you’d be half hoping to be in Parnell Park,” he said.

“It’s tight and there’s a good Dublin crowd in there that can get behind you whereas Croke is more of a neutral stadium for everyone.

“But its a fantastic opportunity as well for our lads to play in Croke Park against Kilkenny and Tipperary, the two top teems in the country, and in the overall picture it’s definitely much more benefit for us to go in and play those games in there.

“We’ll still have the Galway game at home in Parnell and we’ll get the feel for it,” he added.  Watch the interview here:

Daly’s football counterpart, meanwhile, Pat Gilroy says he’s quite happy with the Dubs’ progress despite some minor setbacks.

“[Preparations] have been a little bit difficult because obviously we’re down a few people with injuries and with Kilmacud’s involvement in the Leinster club championship means they’re not involved at all.

“But I’d be very happy with the group that are preparing at the moment but a lot of people will be coming back into the mix in the next week or 10 days.

“But you’d have to be happy enough with the effort that’s been applied so far, he added”
