DERRY WILL HAVE to plan without Cailean O’Boyle for the rest of the summer’s championship.
After a promising league campaign O’Boyle had started Derry’s championship opener with Donegal late last month. He had scored 5-7 in his eight league games this year, including 1-1 in the league final against Dublin.

In the county’s three point defeat at the hands of Donegal, O’Boyle was substituted after 44 minutes by manager Brendan McIver.
The Jordanstown student flew out to the States last week, taking to Twitter to tell all of his followers about the decision.
O’Boyle is likely to miss the remainder of Derry’s championship campaign, starting with their qualifier clash with Longford in less than two weeks. The big corner forward may too miss much of the Derry club championship, after he captained both his club’s football and hurling teams last year.
The Lavey club man later added that he plans to stay in America until a week before he returns to University, which could rule him out up to mid-September.
