Cage Warriors champion Cathal Pendred to defend his title in Dublin

Welterweight holder Pendred has been pencilled in to take on Che Mills at The Helix in June.

NEW WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION Cathal Pendred will defend his title in front of a home crowd, it was announced today.

The 25-year-old Dubliner, with a record of 12-2-1, defeated Frenchman Gael Grimaud with a unanimous decision victory at Cage Warriros 53 in London earlier this month to clinch the title.

A member of SBG Ireland with the likes of Conor McGregor and Gunni Nelsen, Pendred has hinted that he feels ready to make the step up to the UFC, adding that a fight at UFC 118 in Boston would be ideal due to the strong Irish connection and the fact that he was born there.

However, his short-term future at least is in Cage Warriors and he will take on English fighter Che Mills in The Helix on June 1.

Fighting in my own backyard in a venue full of crazy Irish fans against a guy who was in the UFC until very recently, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to defend my title for the first time,” Pendred told CageWarriors.com.
