Burnley have brought Joey Barton back to the Premier League

The controversial midfielder will return to his former club when the transfer window opens in January.

EIGHT MONTHS AFTER leaving the club, Joey Barton is set to return to Burnley next month.

The 34-year-old, who helped the Clarets to secure promotion from the Championship last season, has agreed terms on a second spell at Turf Moor having been training with the club since his departure from Rangers last month.

Subject to international clearance, Barton will complete his move to the Premier League’s 16th-placed side when the transfer window opens in January. The short-term deal will last until the end of the season.

The former Manchester City and Marseille player played just eight times for Rangers when his contract was terminated by the Scottish club. The controversial midfielder was initially suspended by the Ibrox outfit in September following a confrontation with manager Mark Warburton.
