‘Bunk’ from The Wire celebrates St Pat’s league win

You know what they say, “Once a Saint, always a Saint.”

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC celebrated their first league title in more than a decade yesterday — and a couple of thousand miles away, one of their celebrity fans was basking in the glory.

Wendell Pierce, better known as Bunk Moreland from hit TV drama “The Wire”, revealed earlier this year that he is a big Pat’s fan.

Last night he gave the Inchicore club a shout-out on Twitter after their 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers clinched the Airtricity League Premier Division with two games to spare.

A native of Louisiana, the actor’s love for the New Orleans Saints also extends to Ireland’s own Super Saints.

Though the NFL’s Saints were denied a big win by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in dramatic fashion yesterday, Pat’s title party was some consolation for Pierce.

He tweeted: “Brady turned one of the Saints’ most improbable victories into one of their most improbable defeats” Jeff Duncan. Well said.

“At least my Saints in Ireland won the championship.”
