Bundee Aki to miss Barbarians games as he prepares for surgery

The 27-year-old will miss the Barbarians’ upcoming games against England and Ulster this summer.

CONNACHT’S BUNDEE AKI is set to miss the Barbarians’ upcoming fixtures this summer, as he prepares to undergo surgery for an ongoing shoulder injury this week.

The 27-year-old was called up to the squad last month, with the BaaBaas scheduled to take on England on Sunday 28 May, before facing Ulster on Thursday 1 June.

But today’s news means the Connacht centre, who becomes Irish-qualified in October, will miss out on a chance to get a flavour for international rugby.

He is expected to make a return in time for the 2017/2018 season.

Earlier this season, Aki struggled to recover from an ankle injury after undergoing surgery in December. He finally made a return to the Connacht fold in February ahead of a Guinness Pro12 clash against Benetton Treviso.

Aki was unavailable for Connacht’s Champions Cup play-off semi-final defeat to the Northampton Saints over the weekend, due to suspension.
