IT’S NOT UNUSUAL to see the crowds flocking to Nowlan Park on a Saturday or Sunday but this weekend, it won’t be the hurling they’re going to see.
Instead the legend that is Bruce Springsteen is taking over the home of Kilkenny hurling for the final two sold-out nights of the European leg of his Wrecking Ball tour.
Springsteen fans are as passionate about the Boss as Kilkenny fans are about their hurling so really, the weekend double-header is a match made in heaven.
And with the Cats also looking forward to an All-Ireland quarter-final against Cork in Semple Stadium tomorrow afternoon, it couldn’t get much better.
Yesterday we asked: if Bruce Springsteen was a hurler, who would he be and why? Here are some of the best responses.
Here in the office, we had:
Tony Kelly
Baby, he was born to run.
Tommy Walsh
With All-Stars in five different positions on the pitch, he’s a Jack of All Trades.
Anthony Daly
He led the way to the Promised Land back in 1995 (and Dublin fans will be hoping he can do it again this summer.)

Joe Canning
He’s still Waiting on a Sunny Day with Galway in Croke Park.
Brian Corcoran
“Probably been most successful long after he should have retired.”
There were some great suggestions left on our Facebook page:
Ken McGrath
“Another great artist” (from Mark Walsh)
Diarmuid O’Sullivan
“OBVIOUSLY” (Anthony Feighery)
Larry O’Gorman
“He brought Glory Days to My Home Town” (Joe Rossiter)
Conor Lehane
“Good but overrated” (Alan Deegan)
But the most unanimous suggestions came from our followers on Twitter:
We liked these two…
Lar Corbett, maybe?
Brian Cody
Even Brucie knows there’s only one Boss in Kilkenny.
But the runaway winner was… Tony Browne
That settles that then — but if you have any other suggestions, leave them in the comments.
