Dr BOD: Brian O'Driscoll receives another honorary doctorate

Irish rugby star named a Doctor of Arts at National University of Ireland ceremony.

BRIAN O’DRISCOLL RECEIVED an honorary doctorate for his contribution to Irish sport today.

The rugby great was named a Doctor of Arts at the National University of Ireland’s annual ceremony.

It is the second such honour that the star Leinster and Ireland centre has received in the space of a few weeks.

Last month, wife Amy Huberman joked that friends and family would have to refer to him as ‘Dr O’Driscoll’ after he was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy by DCU.

‘Not yet 35 years old, the iconic status Brian O’Driscoll has gained says it all,” Linda O’Shea Farren of the NUI Senate said.

“On so many occasions, he has held the hopes of this nation, north and south, in his hands and he has tread softly on our dreams. He has stayed with us all the way.

“He is a sterling ambassador for everything that’s good about sport, and about Ireland.”

Professors JC Séamus Davis and Brigid Laffin, Irish-Asutralian writer and scholar Val Noone, and film and television producer Lelia Doolan were also honoured at the ceremony in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
