ONE OF THE many Irish athletes to enjoy a fantastic 2014 was Brian O’Driscoll, as the rugby legend played an important role in Ireland’s Six Nations triumph.
The star was honoured with a surprise induction into the RTÉ Sport Hall of Fame at the organisation’s annual awards ceremony last night owing to his achievements in the game, and he was clearly stunned and quite emotional after receiving the honour.
The Dubliner also joked that he didn’t know he was “holding the team back” after they recorded some stunning wins in the November Internationals following his retirement.

Gent! Well deserved!
come on Brian hardly a surprise now was it.
Is there any end in sight for o’d articles! Isn’t there a squad of Irish rugby playing players out there somewhere?
Yes indeed Philip! And there is a RONAN O’GARA whom is forgotten as if he never had a hand in a win for Ireland. Anyway, The big embarrassment of the year was giving BOD the sports book of the year, great as he may be.
Rog situation has nothing to with brian though tbf. Huge difference in importance between the two and I am an old neighbour of rog.
Bod was pretty much a one man machine when we won grand slam. Rog needed so much protection over yrs our teams lost out a little but rog had great moments also and he should maybe have a hall of fame moment for himself soon also.
