BRIAN KERR HAS labelled Dundalk’s hectic schedule as “a ridiculous situation” and “grossly unfair” following their narrow 2-1 loss to Zenit tonight.
A run to the FAI cup final coupled with a number of crucial matches in the league title race has meant Dundalk have had an exhausting few weeks.
And speaking on Eir Sport, former Ireland boss Kerr criticised Irish football’s authorities for not doing more to accommodate the League of Ireland side and take some pressure off by spreading out the games more, as Stephen Kenny’s men bid to become the first-ever team from these shores to progress from the Europa League group stages.

“It’s a ridiculous situation that they’ve got to play that match (away to Zenit) and play the (FAI) Cup final on Sunday and bash away with all those league games.
It was grossly unfair the programme that was put in front of them that they got no concessions from the FAI and the league in relation to those competitions.
“We want them to do well and we want to give them a chance to do well.
“It’s against all protocol that’s right and proper to make a team play every third day at this level.
“I think it will be very difficult for them in Zenit and they’ll be torn between wanting to win that (league and cup) double.”
Dundalk currently sit second in Europa League Group D, one point ahead of Maccabi Tel-Aviv, who won tonight.
