'Our response was truly magnificent' - Brian Cody

The Kilkenny manager has praised his team for showing incredible fighting spirit in Thurles tonight.

KILKENNY BOSS BRIAN CODY was complementary of the resilience showed by Kilkenny after extra-time was needed to decide their All-Ireland SHC qualifier against Waterford this evening.

After throw-in at Semple Stadium was delayed due Clare and Wexford finishing level after 70 minutes, the All-Ireland champions and the Deise played out an enthralling encounter – with the Cats eventually winning out 1-22 to 2-16.

Speaking to TV3 after the final whistle, Cody said: ”It was a magnificent game. It was just non-stop.

They came back at us massively in the second half. They got the equaliser and it went to extra time. Our response was truly magnificent. It’s a credit to both teams.

“People ask ‘can they keep it going’ and ‘do we have the hunger’ but it was manifested out there. The hunger is there and the quality of opposition is absolutely amazing. The number of teams that can win the All-Ireland and beat any team on any given day is just greater and greater every single time.”
