The Faithful County had few moments to cheer at Nowlan Park but this goal was one of them.

OFFALY GOT WELL and truly annihilated by Kilkenny at Nowlan Park on Saturday but Brian Carroll can hold his head high this morning.

The Coolderry forward scored 1-10 for his county in their 26-point defeat to Brian Cody’s men in the Leinster SHC quarter finals. Sky Sports were broadcasting the game and match commentators Mike Finnerty and Nicky English were particularly impressed with Carroll’s second half goal.

Carroll lost his hurl contesting for a high ball but kept his raised and raised the sliotar between his boots in a hopping motion. He managed to turn and bury a left-footed finish, similar to English in his Tipperary pomp. “What about that for a finish?” exclaimed Finnerty as Carroll dispatched his shot past Eoin Murphy.

The move was also akin to the ‘Blanco Hop’ by Cuauhtémoc Blanco, which was first unveiled when he appeared for Mexico at the 1998 World Cup.
