Brendan Rodgers to remain as Liverpool manager after positive talks with chairman

Rodgers met with Tom Werner in Liverpool.

LIVERPOOL MANAGER BRENDAN Rodgers will not part company with the club after holding discussions with chairman Tom Werner today.

There had been doubts over the future of the Northern Irishman after’s his side’s disappointing season, as they finished sixth in the table, were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League, and humiliated 6-1 by Stoke on the final day of the season.

Speaking after that game, Rodgers said he was unsure whether he would be at the club next season.

“I’ve always said if the owners want me to go, then I go,” he said.

But it appears that his future is now safe after discussions with Werner and FSG executive Mike Gordon.

It’s also reported that Rodgers identified James Milner as his number one transfer target, with the England international available on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Transfers have been a major issue for Rodgers since he arrived, with the manager believed to be unhappy with the committee responsible for selecting targets.

Liverpool spent almost £120m in the summer of 2014 after the sale of Luis Suarez, with the likes of Mario Balotelli, Dejan Lovren and Lazar Markovic all failing to impress.
