THIS IS A perfect example of how not to endear the crowd. Keith Thurman, fresh from getting punched upside the head in his WBA Welterweight title win over Diego Chaves, clearly didn’t have all his wits about him and it cost him a lot of goodwill.
With the mic thrust in his face, the Floridian proceeded to offer out his thank yous. It was all going great until it came time to mention the venue he had no doubt been saying over and over again in recent weeks:
“SAN”, (um… which San was it again? No, not Francisco. No, couldn’t be Antonio…) “DIEGO?”
(No, they’re booing, that’s not right.)
“SAN ANTONIO, my bad.”
Could have been worse, though He could have mixed up Waterford and Wexford. Now that would put him in serious bother.
