Bankrupt Boris Becker pleads for help in hunt for missing trophies

The German shook up the tennis world when he became the then youngest-ever male Grand Slam champion at the age of 17,

BANKRUPT FORMER TENNIS star Boris Becker on Wednesday appealed for help in tracking down five missing Grand Slam trophies which he needs to sell to help pay off his debts.

The German shook up the tennis world at Wimbledon in 1985 when, as an unseeded player, he became the then youngest-ever male Grand Slam champion at the age of 17, defending the trophy the following year.

Becker, 50, went on to win six Grand Slam trophies in a glittering career and reached world number one, amassing more than $25 million in prize money.

But the German, who coached former world number one Novak Djokovic to multiple Grand Slam titles, was declared bankrupt by a court in London last year.

His London-based bankruptcy trustees said in a statement issued on Wednesday that Becker had helped collect some of the trophies and other memorabilia that he amassed during his career.

But the trustees added: โ€œA number of the trophies of Mr Beckerโ€™s career are unaccounted for as Mr Becker is unable to recollect where they are located.โ€

The statement said the All England Tennis Club, which hosts Wimbledon, the German Tennis Federation, the US Tennis Association, Tennis Australia and the International Tennis Hall of Fame, do not appear to have the missing trophies.

โ€œMr Becker and his bankruptcy trustees are therefore issuing a joint appeal to the public for any information that may assist with locating Mr Beckerโ€™s missing trophies, which include the trophies for his victories at the Australian Open (1991 and 1996) and Wimbledon (1985, 1986, 1989; The Presidentโ€™s Challenge Cup 1985 and 1989; The Renshaw Cup 1989).โ€

Just in response to the42.ieโ€™s constant ads for Boyle Sports on their rugby articles, Iโ€™ll link to the news story of their parent site. The questionโ€ฆwill they remove a comment that links to an article on their own parent site outlining Ireland problem gambling, or will they just ignore the fact that they are openly advertising gambling at the same time they are also reporting the harms of gambling?

@JoeVlogs: Such is the dialethics of life. How do they make money without advertising revenue? Betting, alcohol, etc. all no doubt cause a lot of harm (and arguably a great deal of joy too) but they pay, and people need money to survive, as capitalism evolves so too does our addiction to money. Like why does Soros need more? (because like most business people heโ€™s addicted to accumulating wealth and power). How do we protect the smallest number of people who may be vulnerable to addiction while supporting the majorityโ€™s personal freedoms, you won find an answer

Good to hear he is in good nick. He is a very important player but not as vital as Porter. Bealham was excellent in the 6ns and Oโ€™Toole was also reliable. If Porter were to get injured I would be quite apprehensive about the scrummaging ability of his replacements.
