Booth: Klitschko camp in touch, but no fight on the cards

Adam Booth has played down reports that David Haye will return to the boxing ring early next year.

THE ‘WILL THEY, won’t they’ saga between David Haye and Vitali Klitschko is showing no sign of waning anytime soon.

A report in the Daily Telegraph said that Haye is “back in training” in preparation for a bout against the Ukrainian next March, despite the fact he retired from the sport over a month ago.

The fighter’s manager has also quashed talk of a return – saying that while there is ongoing “communication” from the Klitschko camp, there has been no U-turn from Haye.

“I’ve had phone calls,” Adam Booth admitted to Sky Sports News. “But as far as I’m concerned at the moment, the fight isn’t happening and David is retired. That’s all I can say.”

Booth said that the 31-year-old “wheezed his way through” a couple of rounds at his old gym last week and insisted that the former heavyweight is “far” from ready for a comeback.

The man himself, meanwhile, believes that former Olympian David Price is now the best placed British boxer to break the Klitschkos dominance of the heavyweight ranks.

Speaking to the Daily Star (UK edition), he said: “In two years’ time, (David) will be European champion. If he beats (John) McDermott he will prove he’s the best of the rest who can stop the Klitschkos.”
