Bolt aiming for 9.40 seconds in London this summer

“To run 9.40 would be a great feat so I’m definitely going to push myself to do my best and if 9.40 is possible, I’ll be the one to do it.”

OLYMPIC CHAMPION Usain Bolt has arrived in Europe as he continues to prepare for the defence of his 100m and 200m titles at London 2012.

The Jamaican won both events in Beijing four years ago, setting new world records in the process, and wants to go even faster than his current 100m mark of 9.58 seconds in London.

“I told my coach it would be a wonderful feat to run 9.40 seconds,” Bolt said. ”I think people are looking forward to me running 9.40.

“For me, I train hard and never think about times — it’s always about the gold medal. To run 9.40 would be a great feat so I’m definitely going to push myself to do my best and if 9.40 is possible, I’ll be the one to do it.”

Bolt will race at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava in the Czech Republic on Friday.

“I work hard and I’m a confident person who goes there to win at all times,” Bolt said.  ”I’m really focused in this Olympics year so I’m on top of my game and I’m in great shape.

“I’ve had one of my fastest season-openers, which is good and gives you more motivation to show you’re in good shape. I’m just going to go into the Ostrava meeting now full of confidence and more determined to go as fast as possible.

“I’m ready for anything and I’m happy with where I’m at.”

Bolt will also compete in Diamond League events in Rome and Oslo before returning to Jamaica for the national trials in June.

He plans to return to Europe in July for the Diamond League meet in Monaco, his last race before the Games.
