Bohemians make Roddy Collins approach

The Premier Division strugglers are exploring the possibility of bringing their former manager, now with Athlone Town, back to the club.

BOHEMIANS HAVE CONTACTED Athlone Town seeking permission to speak with Roddy Collins about the possibility of returning as manager.

The Airtricity League side sacked Aaron Callaghan last week after a poor run of results which saw fall to second from bottom in the Premier Division table.

Assistant boss Owen Heary has since come in on a caretaker basis, winning away to Bray Wanderers last Friday night, but the former defender does not have the necessary coaching badges to take the role permanently.

While Bohs are looking into a number of options, they have made contact with First Division club Athlone in the hope of talking to Collins, who won a league and cup double with them in 2001.

Speaking to TheScore.ie this evening, a Bohemians spokesperson said: “The current position is that the club is not urgently seeking to find a new manager. It will look to get the maximum time allowed out of Owen Heary.

In the meantime, various avenues have been considered, explored and some have already been ruled out. An approach was made to Athlone about speaking with Roddy.

“It is one of several avenues being explored.”

When Athlone were contacted, they simply explained that Collins will take training as usual this evening and is scheduled to be in the dug-out for their meeting with Waterford United tomorrow night.
