Blues to offer Laurent Blanc almost £10m to take on manager's job

The former Manchester United defender is not expected to sign an extension with France beyond Euro 2012.

CHELSEA WANT LAURENT Blanc to be the next man to enjoy their unique brand of severance packages, and will offer the France manager £9million-a-year to replace Andre Villas Boas.

Blanc will lead Les Bleus at this summer’s European Championships but has not committed to France beyond that point.

With the inexperienced Roberto di Matteo currently in the Blues’ hot-seat, Abramovich is looking for someone with a bit more pulling power in the transfer market, and the former Manchester United defender Blanc would fit that bill.

Blanc has previously stated his ambition to manage in the Premier League, and at Stamford Bridge in particular.

“England is another world, with a real passion, a history, great players, and the financial support. Chelsea is one of the biggest European clubs,” he said in 1998.

However, Chelsea are set to face competition from Inter Milan for Blanc’s signature.

The Nerrazzuri sacked Claudio Ranieri on Monday night and Blanc – having also played for Inter for two seasons in the 1990s – is the favourite to take over at the Serie A club.
