Blow for Les Bleus as Maxime Medard facing lengthy injury lay-off

The full-back has revealed that he faces up to nine months out of action with a serious knee ligament injury.

WITH IRELAND SET for Paris on Sunday, Franceโ€™s 6 Nations hopes have taken a real blow today.

Full-back Maxime Medard has revealed that he faces up to nine months out of action with a serious knee ligament injury.

Medard went off in the second half of Les Bleusโ€™ 23-17 victory over Scotland last weekend and it was later found he suffered damaged cruciate and anterior ligaments.

โ€œThe operation is booked for Monday and my unavailability will be from six to nine months,โ€ the 25-year-old Toulouse player wrote on Twitter.

New France coach Philippe Saint-Andre has already called in Clement Poitrenaud to deputise at full-back for this weekendโ€™s rearranged clash with Ireland in Paris.
