Ex-Celtic manager Tony Mowbray has been announced as his successor, coming as the club’s seventh full-time manager since Indian owners Venkys bought the club in 2010.
In his playing days, Mowbray lined out in defence for Celtic, Middlesborough and Ipswich Town, clocking up over 650 appearances.
The Englishman then made the move into coaching, starting out at Portman Road. From there, he was offered his first management role at Hibernian whom he twice guided to European football with two top-four finishes. He was also named the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Manager of the Year for his efforts.
In October 2006, he stepped in as manager of West Bromwich Albion, who he led to the Championship play-off final in his first season and guided them to the Championship title in his second.
He spent a brief stint at Celtic between June 2009 and October 2010, before returning to another of his former clubs, Middlesborough for three years. His last management position was at Coventry City, before he resigned in September.
Mowbray’s first game in charge comes away to fellow Championship strugglers Burton Albion on Friday. The former English champions currently sit second from bottom of the Championship, and three points adrift of safety.
