Black Caviar 'pulled up lame' at Ascot

The Australian horse, who took a surprisingly narrow victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, tore muscles in her hind quarters.

BLACK CAVIAR’S TRAINER Peter Moody has revealed the unbeaten mare tore muscles in her hind quarters in Saturday’s win at Royal Ascot.

Moody declared veterinarians had identified muscle injuries and bruising in Black Caviar’s rear legs on Sunday, although they could not pinpoint when the mare had sustained the problems.

But in good news the five-year-old will be given treatment before she flies back to Australia.

“She’s had something like this before,” Moody said.

“She’s entering quarantine today, we’re sending her home, but well be able to have the injuries treated whilst she’s in quarantine.”

Black Caviar looked uncharacteristically sluggish during her win in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Saturday, the 22nd-straight victory of her career.

Moody admitted that his star horse had been ‘very flat and tired’ the morning after the win at Royal Ascot.
