Michael Owen is fishing for an Oscar with this dramatic turn in a Chinese whiskey ad

Regrettably, he is probably typecast from his BT commentary days.

ONE PERK OF being famous is that companies will pay you barrels of cash to advertise their products. If you do it right like Gary Lineker, you can develop a cheese and onion empire that will run for the rest of your life.

Michael Owen starred in a Chinese whiskey ad, and it was reminiscent of Bill Murray’s character doing the same thing in Lost In Translation.

Why are whiskey ads always so serious? Vodka ads are usually high energy whereas whisky brands often go with ones that are stoic and dramatic.

Regardless, there are definitely similarities between Owen and Murray’s performance.

I wonder if Owen’s director was as demanding as Murray’s.

Murray didn’t win an Oscar but maybe the former Liverpool striker can go one better.

Who gave a better performance, Owen or Murray?
