Sligo make second signing of mid-season break as they strengthen attacking resources

Benny Igiehon has also played in England and Switzerland.

SLIGO ROVERS HAVE completed their second signing of the mid-season break after announcing the acquisition of striker Benny Igiehon.

Igiehon has been training with Gerard Lyttle’s squad all week and will officially join the club for the rest of the SSE Airtricity League campaign on 1 July, subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old arrives from English club Scarborough Athletic, where he was top scorer last season, having also had a spell in Switzerland.

“This is a fantastic football club with a lot of history and I am honoured to have signed for the club,” he said.

“I cannot wait to help the team move up the league table, which is where the club belongs.”

With Sligo resuming their campaign tomorrow against Galway third from bottom, manager Lyttle has been active in the transfer market over the last 10 days and has also brought in former Rangers midfielder Rhys McCabe.

Neither Igiehon or McCabe will be available for Saturday’s clash with Galway but the Bit O’Red will hope they can help reverse the club’s fortunes in the second half of the season.

“Benny is a real physical presence and has a quick turn of pace,” Lyttle added.

“He is a player who has the potential to go on and do great things for Sligo Rovers. I am very pleased to have secured his signature and I am very excited for the supporters of this football club.”
