Benitez unsure of Sturridge future

Rumours persist that the 23-year-old could be on the way to Liverpool.

INTERIM CHELSEA BOSS Rafael Benitez is unsure whether Daniel Sturridge will still be at the club at the end of January.

The England international is reportedly close to a move to Liverpool, whose manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on finding attackers who can play in positions across the front line.

Asked if Sturridge was set for a move, Benitez insisted he did not know anything about a potential transfer, but says the market is unpredictable.

Benitez told the Fulham and Hammersmith Chronicle: “We will see. You never know in the market.

“I don’t know what (the press) said because I didn’t read the press.”

The Spaniard says it has been difficult to get a gauge on the 23-year-old due to his injury problems this season.

“He was training with us yesterday, but that was just one training session. So now we have to wait, because he was injured,” Benitez said.

“To be fair, I only saw him three times last week, so he couldn’t train too much in this time with him.”
