Manchester United flop Bebe: 'I never understood what Fergie said'

The Portuguese also claims he didn’t take his time at Old Trafford seriously.

ONE OF THE worst signings ever made by Alex Ferguson has revealed what his nightmare at Manchester United has been like.

The football world was shocked when United decided to pay Portuguese club Guimaraes £7.4million for unknown 20-year-old winger Bebe.

The transfer, which was brokered by super agent Jorge Mendes, became even more astonishing when Ferguson later explained that he had never even seen the player in action.

Having made little or no impact during the first year, Bebe was offloaded to Turkey for a loan period with Besiktas but picked up a cruciate injury while on duty with the Portugal U21s and was later frozen out for breaking a team curfew.

Currently on-loan at Rio Ave in his homeland, he has given an interview to sports website MaisFutebol, in which, according to the Daily Mail, he claims:

  • He didn’t take his time there seriously and never understood what Ferguson said.
  • He was told to cut his dreadlocks by Ferguson, who didn’t recognise him after that.
  • The United manager called him “Baby” and was always criticising compatriot Nani.
  • After nutmegging Ryan Giggs, his team-mate told him to “Go tell your mother you did this to Ryan Giggs”.
