A NEW DOCUMENTARY charting the rise and rise of Irish cricket is set to hit screens next week.

‘Batmen: The Story of Irish Cricket’ traces the sport’s growth from its early days to the historic giantkillings of recent years, not least the stunning upset of England at the 2011 World Cup.

Including interviews with current international stars John Mooney and Ed Joyce, and narrated by former Irish cricketer Alan Lewis, it tells the tale of “the sport most impacted by the enormous political changes of the last 200 years.”

Directed by Maurice Sweeney and produced by Motive Television — the same people responsible for the brilliant ‘We Got Game’ on the golden age of Irish basketball — ‘Batmen’ debuts next Tuesday, 18 June, at 8pm on Setanta Sports.
