Barry Davies will make a one off return to MOTD to mark its 50th anniversary

The retired commentator will return to the show for the first time in almost 10 years.

LEGENDARY BBC COMMENTATOR Barry Davies will return to Match of the Day this Saturday as the show celebrates 50 years on the air.

Davies commentated on football for the BBC for 35 years between 1969-2004 after which he moved into a freelance role, still working with the BBC.

As well as football, fans would have also heard Davies on broadcasts for the Olympics and Wimbledon. Davies will cover the Crystal Palace vs West Ham game on Saturday.

The return of Davies isn’t the only thing BBC are doing to commemorate MOTD’s milestone. The documentary “Match of the Day at 50″ will air on BBC One at 10.35 this Friday night.

In case you have forgotten, or are too young to remember Davies in his heyday, here he is working with Jimmy Hill at the 1986 World Cup.
