Barcelona to wear Catalan colours for the first time in club's history

According to reports in a Spanish newspaper, the La Liga side are set for yellow and red striped kit next season.

SPANISH GIANTS BARCELONA are planning to break with 113 years of tradition and wear a strip in the colours of the Catalan flag for the first time, according to reports this morning.

La Blaugrana, who finished second behind Real Madrid last season, will continue with their usual blue and red home jersey next year but intend to introduce a new red and yellow kit for away games in 2013/14, say Spanish newspaper Sport.

The Senyera, a flag consisting of red stripes on a golden yellow background, represents Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia and the Balearic Islands and can be found on the Barca crest and on the back of the current jerseys.

In a bid to promote the history of the club,  however, the new marketing campaign which is aimed at “reinforcing the sporting and sentimental ties that the majority of the population of the region share”, will be rolled out next season.

Whatever the case, it will no doubt be an upgrade on this season’s horrific ‘ice pop’ change strip – although the colours aren’t a millions miles from it!
