MARIO BALOTELLI HAS been told that he โmust work moreโ at Nice in order to earn respect, with Lucien Favre pointing out that โscoring goals is not enoughโ.
The Italian striker has been a welcome hit in French football following his arrival from Liverpool in the summer of 2016.
He has found the target 13 times in 19 Ligue 1 appearances to help spearhead a surprise bid for title glory.
Balotelli has, however, also faced all too familiar questions regarding his temperament and work rate, with Favre conceding that the 26-year-old is far from the finished article.
He told Tagesspiegel: โHe needs to make more and better runs. Mario must work more if he wants the long-term respect of his teammates.
โScoring goals is not enough in modern football.โ
While urging Balotelli to work on his contribution to the collective cause, Favre is enjoying working with a forward who has been difficult to handle at various points throughout his career.
He added: โMarioโs a nice lad, we get along well.
You need to distinguish Balotelli the person and Balotelli the forward.
โHeโs a role model as a person, and regarding the forwardโฆ his goals definitely help us, and Marioโs played really well in the past few games.โ
Balotelliโs arrival at Nice as a free agent is just one example of the impressive business carried out by a club that continues to punch above its weight in a title tussle with big-spending Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.
Favre said of that challenge: โAll the teams around us are investing hugely.
Thatโs why qualification for the Champions League would be a miracle, and I will do everything to make it come true.
โThere is nothing greater than the Champions League โ not even the World Cup.โ

Well done. Hopefully they can retain the Koh Samui cup this summer
@Luke: absolute horseplay
@Niall Boyle: absolutely sending it!
Would be very disappointed if 6 of the Blackrock squad arenโt capped by Ireland this summer
@Niall Boyle: and youโll be begging for the other 9 players
@Niall Boyle: bit early for that under 20s first i would of taught
@SEAN: expect a solicitors letter for a derogatory comment like that
Tremendous game, albeit defence-dominated, well worth a watch by those who can. Munster fans would enjoy another top performance by Michael OโSullivan, the Blackrock openside
@Kevin Ryan: agreed. I thought that lad was excellent. Is he a Munster kid?
@Jack Kirwan: From Kerry apparently, and definitely in the Munster system. So, for example, played for Munster against Leinster in the U19 interpro last August
Just get into leinster academy and be capped by capped by ireland within 2 years
Shame it was in Tallaght canโt believe people actually live in that kip. Still serious horseplay with the lads.
