Early goals from Cian Dorgan and John Kelly paved the way for Ballincollig to advance to a first-ever Cork SFC final as they beat Nemo Rangers at Páirc Uí Chaoimh this afternoon.
In bad conditions, Ballincollig produced an excellent performance built upon outstanding defending, with Liam Jennings and Noel Galvin excellent in the full-back line. It was the early double salvo which put Nemo on the back foot, however, with the city side never really getting going.
Dorgan pounced after John Paul Murphy’s shot was deflected into his path in the eighth minute and two minutes later John Miskella found Kelly, who sent a low shot to the corner of Micheál Aodh Martn’s net.
When Dorgan sent over a free, the lead was 2-3 to 0-1 and though they added just another point before half-time, their lead was six, with James Masters the only player to impress in the Nemo attack.
With Miskella roving, Patrick Kelly retaining possession well and Séan Kiely and Ciarán O’Sullivan on top in midfield, Ballincollig were dominant but early wides at the start of the second half indicated a nerviness while Nemo responded through Paul Kerrigan and sub Aidan O’Reilly.
An excellent Cian Kiely point settled Ballincollig again though and they grew stronger as the end neared, running out seven-point winners.
Scorers for Ballincollig: C Dorgan 1-3 (two frees), J Kelly 1-0, P Kelly (one free), C O’Sullivan 0-2 each, S Kiely, C Kiely, I Coughlan (free) 0-1 each.
Scorers for Nemo Rangers: J Masters 0-4 (three frees), P Kerrigan (free), J Horgan, B O’Driscoll, A O’Reilly, W Morgan 0-1 each.
