Back to work for Katie Taylor after golden homecoming

Bray boxer will take a short rest before focusing on London Olympics, according to her father.

KATIE TAYLOR WON’T rest on her laurels after her latest world championship victory, according to the father and coach Peter.

The Wicklow boxer won gold in China on Saturday morning with a tournament final defeat of Russian southpaw, Sofya Ochigava.

Taylor — who represents Ireland’s brightest medal hope at the Olympics – was afforded a hero’s welcome when she touched down at Dublin Airport yesterday evening, before heading home to Bray to be greeted by yet more well-wishers.

She’ll now enjoy a short rest before turning her full focus on London.

“Her achievement is just great,” Peter Taylor said at the homecoming. “We have 11 days’ break now until we’re back into training for the Olympics.”

“The welcome home has just been amazing — what can I say. It just means so much getting a welcome like this in her hometown.”

Heading to her first Games as world champions, the 25-year-old will be favourite for gold. The world title win in China was her fourth in-a-row.
