Back to the future: Munster secure youngsters - and Dougie Howlett - to new deals

Good day’s work for Thomond Park chiefs as 11 stars sign on the dotted line.

LAST WEEK LEINSTER were boosted by the news that three of their biggest stars had committed to life in Dublin with new IRFU deals.

And this morning, Munster fans have also been given a Monday afternoon boost with the news that 11 of the current Thomond Park squad have agreed contract extensions.

While Brian O’Driscoll, Jamie Heaslip and Jonny Sexton are the three internationals who penned deals in the capital, the Reds have secured the participation of young stars like Darragh Hurley and Ian Nagle.

Other starlets who’ve inked new deals are Mike Sherry, Dave Foley, Peter O’Mahony, Paddy Butler, Tommy O’Donnell, Conor Murray, Scott Deasy and Felix Jones.

The province also was officially confirmed that Ian Keatley will join from Connacht at the end of the season on a two-year contract.

All Blacks legend Doug Howlett, meanwhile,  has also agreed a further extension that will keep him in red until the end of the 2011/2012 at least.

This agreement comes in the face of  ’more lucrative offers from abroad’.
