LEINSTER AND IRELAND full-back Rob Kearney looks set to spend the rest of 2012 on the sidelines to recover from surgery on a back injury.
The 26-year-old is due to have an operation tomorrow which rules him out of Ireland’s November series internationals and makes him a major doubt for Leinster’s crunch European double-header against Clermont Auvergne in December.

Kearney came off injured during Leinster’s derby defeat against Connacht last month and, despite hopeful noises from the province’s medical staff, had not recovered in time for the opening two rounds of the Heineken Cup.
Earlier this week Kearney was adamant that he would be fit for the November tests but announcing his 31-man squad today, coach Declan Kidney confirmed that the full-back will need “eight to ten weeks” to recover from the procedure.
“We just learned yesterday that he’s going to go ahead with surgery,” Kidney said.
“The medics will always do everything they can to avoid interventions in the body so they’ll take a look at all other avenues of care. They’ve been trying a few but with little success, and it was just decided yesterday that we need to cut our cloth here and just go for it.”
