A great story about Austin Gleeson from after the Munster hurling final

The Waterford defender made one young fan’s day after losing to Tipp.

LOSING YOUR FIRST Munster final can’t be easy.

So once the final whistle blew in Semple Stadium last Sunday, you would have forgiven Austin Gleeson if he just wanted to be left alone.

The youngster has been one of the stars of Waterford’s season, and after the defeat against Tipp, he was sought out by one young Déise fan looking for an autograph.

Gleeson’s response, as detailed by Muiris Walsh, was exemplary:

So Sean approaches Austin Gleeson.

Sean: Could you sign my Hurley and Cuil Hero card please

Austin: no bother. What’s your name and who do you play for

Sean: Sean, Nire/ Fourmilewater

Austin : how old are you

Sean: nearly 11

Austin: You’d never know, we might win an All Ireland Together

Sean: hope so, Hard luck today

Austin: we are still in An Ireland

‘Moral victories aren’t any good to us, we want silverware on the board’

Here are the front covers of two massive GAA autobiographies coming this year
