LEITRIM CHAMPIONS AUGHAWILLAN are through to the Connacht SFC semi-finals after beating Sligo county champions Tubbercurry in what was the first win by a Leitrim side in the Connacht club championship since 2005.
Tubbercurry actually started far brighter than their opponents and opened up a 0-04 to 0-01 lead after 15 minutes. But Aughawillan fought back and a goal two minutes before half-time meant the side went into the break all square at 1-04 to 0-07.
While the final score might suggest Aughawillan had it easy in the second half, the two teams traded scores throughout the second 30 and were level four times.
In fact, Tubbercurry might rue the fact that they didn’t kick on after leading by 0-12 to 1-7 with ten minutes to go.

Instead it was the Leitrim side that kicked on, scoring 1-2 without reply in injury-time to advance to the semi-final where they will play Galway champions Corofin.
