A PHILLY GORMAN penalty clinched the Airtricity League First Division for Athlone Town tonight.
Roddy Collins’ side beat Waterford United 1-0 in Lissywollen to seal the title and promotion back to the Premier Division next season.

With nearest rivals Longford Town losing 1-0 against Mervue United, Athlone are now 11 points clear with two games remaining.
But it’s all to play for in the race for second place after tonight’s results. Longford and Waterford are both on 44 points, separated only by goal difference, while Mervue are now just one point behind on 43.
