Ledwith and North on target as Sligo win in Athlone

Keith Long’s side still have just one point all season following another loss tonight.

DANNY NORTH AND Danny Ledwith were on target, as Sligo Rovers claimed a 2-0 win over Athlone Town this evening.

Ledwith opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, as he met John Russell’s cross to put the visitors in the lead.

Philly Gorman twice went close for the hosts, but couldn’t take advantage, as Athlone trailed going in at the break.

Sligo went close on several occasions in the second half, before North secured their victory on 79 minutes.

The striker finished clinically just inside the box to double his side’s advantage, with Eric Odhiambo claiming the assist.

Sligo remain in fifth despite taking three points following tonight’s game, while Athlone are still firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, having earned just one point all season.
