ASTON VILLA ARE hopeful of signing Robbie Keane in time to face Everton on January 14.
It was announced on Tuesday that the Ireland captain would train with his old side Tottenham Hotspur during January as the MLS season is currently on their winter break.
However, the Midlands club have emerged as favourites to take the 31-year-old on a two-month loan deal after what The Daily Mail described as “productive talks” between the two parties.
Newcastle United, who will lose top scorer Demba Ba to the African Cup of Nations, are also believed to be interested while Celtic are keen to bring Keane back for a second spell after his stint in Glasgow back in 2010.

If Alex McLeish does prove successful in striking a deal before next week, Keane could potentially line out against his LA Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan, who is back with the Toffees on a similar short-term contract to the one he signed two seasons ago.
