UCC and UL set up an exciting Ashbourne Cup showdown

The third-level camogie final takes place in Gort GAA Grounds on Sunday afternoon.

UL 1-11 Waterford IT 1-5

UCC 2-9 Mary Immaculate 1-7

UCC WILL HAVE a chance to end their 13-year wait for the Ashbourne Cup after they beat Waterford IT on Saturday.

UCC have won the third-level camogie competition on 32 occasions — only UCD have won more — but have lost three finals since last lifting the trophy back in 2003.

They will meet UL in tomorrow’s final at the Gort GAA Grounds after the Limerick side ran out five-point winners against holders Waterford IT.

UCC edged a tight first half against Mary I and led by a point, 1-5 to 1-4, but they pulled away after the break as they managed to hold their opponents to just three points in the second half.

UL, winners of this competition in 2014, bounced back after conceding an early goal to lead WIT by 0-7 to 1-2 at the break.

And when they grabbed a goal in the first minute of the second half, it left the holders with a mountain that proved too big to climb.
