'As bad as it gets': Jets lose again

The New York Jets’ slim playoff hopes slipped away last night in a 14-10 defeat to the Tennessee Titans.

THE NEW YORK Jets and their tortured offense let their slim playoff hopes slip away, losing 14-10 to the Tennessee Titans as quarterback Mark Sanchez threw four interceptions.

Chris Johnson rushed for 122 yards and scored a touchdown on 21 carries for the Titans who played the role of spoilers last night.

Titan quarterback Jake Locker completed 13-of-22 passes for 149 yards to go with 43 rushing yards on seven carries for the Titans, who halted a three-game losing skid.

Tennessee improved to 5-9 but are going to miss the post-season for the fourth-consecutive season.

The Jets needed to win their last three games to have a shot at a playoff spot, but Sanchez’s dismal performance and their anaemic offense Monday ended any chance of that.

The Jets appeared to be mounting a comeback but Sanchez bungled a snap with the Jets deep in Tennessee zone with under a minute remaining.

“For that last play to happen it is about as bad as it gets,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “I thought we would be in the playoffs.”

After the game, Ryan refused to name his starting quarterback for the next contest.

Sanchez, who has struggled mightily this season, completed just 13-of-28 passes for 131 yards with a touchdown.

The Titans are just playing out the season but they now lead the all-time series against the Jets 22-17-1.

Tennessee was also playing without tight end Jared Cook, who is out with a torn right rotator cuff.
