Steven Gerrard to miss Ireland game to undergo shoulder surgery

The Liverpool captain will also miss the remainder of his side’s Premier League game.

LIVERPOOL TODAY CONFIRMED that Steven Gerrard will have surgery on a recurring shoulder problem this week.

The news means the 32-year-old will miss England’s historic friendly with Ireland on May 29 in Wembley.

The surgery also rules him out of Liverpool’s final two Premier League games against Fulham and QPR.

In breaking the news, a statement on the club’s website simply said:

“The captain’s injury has progressively worsened in recent weeks and requires and operation to cure it.”

Despite the setback, Gerrard had a good campaign with Liverpool, only missing 17 minutes of action through injury this season.
