Keith Fahey leaves Birmingham City

The Ireland midfielder leaves the blues after four and half years.

IN THE SAME week as former club mate Stephen Carr retired from professional football, Keith Fahey has ended his stay at Birmingham City.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder made 121 appearances for the club following his move from St. Patrick’s Athletic in 2009, scoring nine goals.

The 30-year-old took to Twitter today to announce the news that he was leaving the club:

Fahey endured a difficult final season with the Blues, leaving for two months on compassionate leave in November 2012 before suffering a season ending recurrence of a hip-injury in April this year.

Birmingham, who finished 12th the NPower Championship – seven points below the playoffs and seven above relegation – had an option to extend Fahey’s contract but have chosen not to do so.
